Lessons from the Strawberry Patch

There are a lot of lessons that can be learned from picking strawberries. As with fruit, you can pick the lessons you like and leave those alone that aren’t quite as appealing to you.

• Some berries are tart, some are sweet, and some are tart and sweet. If you don’t know anything about strawberries, you won’t know which berry is tart and which is sweet until you spend some time learning about them. It takes time to figure out which berries you like best and some are an acquired taste.
• Berries aren’t always what they seem to be. You may pick what you think is the perfect berry, only to find it is rotten on the bottom.
• You may have to search through a lot of rotten berries to find a good one.
• The best berry may be hidden underneath layers of protective leaves or hidden in plain sight.
• A lot of people will offer advice on how to pick a good berry, but you should pick the one that you like best.
• Don’t pick all of the good strawberries; leave some for others.
• Different types of strawberries require different care to reach their full potential.
• As a strawberry ripens, it becomes more vibrant in color, softer and more fragrant.
• When your sister’s bucket is overflowing with berries, and your bucket is almost empty, she should share.
• There are many types of strawberries, but they are all strawberries.
